Gender Expressions Exhibit
The final exhibit in our semester-long LGBTQ series displays several different gender expression groups ranging from the Radical Faeries to the African American Ball Culture. The exhibit will be on display from April 22 to May 10 in the Student Union third floor exhibit case. The photographs were generously donated to the SUNY Buffalo State, Archives and Special Collections, Madeline Davis LGBTQ Archives of WNY and are available to faculty, students, and researchers. Gender Identity vs. Gender Expression
Gender identity is internal. It is, quite simply, the gender with which you identify. It’s the word (or words) that you could use to define yourself that simply make sense to you.
Gender expression, on the other hand, is what everyone around us can see. Gender expression is the way in which you express your gender. You may identify as a woman and dress in a traditionally feminine way. You may identify as a woman and dress in a traditionally masculine way. The point is that the two aren’t necessarily related.
